A G1 license is obtained after paying a fee, and passing a written test and eye exam. You may operate a G class vehicle under the supervision of a qualified co-driver and with several other conditions.
A G2 license is obtained after holding a G1 class for 12 months (8 months if you pass an MTO approved driving course). You must pass a road test to obtain a G2 license which allows you to operate a G-class vehicle on your own and with limited conditions.
A full G license is obtained after holding a G2 class license for an additional 12 months. A second road test must be passed. A full G class license has a few restrictions based on age (Zero Blood Alcohol Concentration until the age of 22).
